Federalismsystem of government

Federalismsystem of government in which authority is shared between two largely autonomous levels of government: the federal government and state governments. In my opinion, not only did the Supreme Court decisions in McCulloch v. Maryland and Gibbons v. Ogden help define the relationship between the federal government and the states, but also these several landmark Supreme Court decisions promoted national unity by strengthening the federal government.
