Inflammation of the pleural layers

One key concept I learned in lab was the different lung sounds, for example:*Course Crackles – Caused by fluid or secretions in the airways.

*Bronchial Breath Sounds – Loud/harsh sounds caused by turbulent air.

*Fine Crackles – Caused by fluid/secretions.

*Wheeze (expiratory) – Caused by narrowing of airways.

*Pleural Rub– Inflammation of the pleural layers/loss of lubrication.

*Stridor – High pitch noisy breathing due to narrowing or blockage in upper airway.

  1. A skill I learned in class was being to see the difference in eye accommodation. We witnessed when a student pupil didn’t accommodate, the student pupil did not adjust when the penlight was brought near the student eye.

I feel that the skills and concepts are essential because I will need to know all the above skills and concepts to help me to be a competent nurse, and to know how to utilize my skills adequately. The abnormal lung sounds will help to know what going on with the patient as I complete an assessment on them, so I can report it to the doctor using SBAR communication. I also learned how to make the patient feel comfortable, so they can feel comfortable telling me everything I will need to know to help them get well.
