Intensive Outpatient Program
Case Study:
Laurie has worked at Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for 3 years. Laurie has done well working with her clients. However, Laurie’s office mate, Sally, has concerns about Laurie’s relationship with a male client, Phillip, from Laurie’s self-esteem building group. Phillip comes by the office daily for small chats and gives unsolicited compliments to Laurie. Being polite, Laurie welcomes the conversations. However, Laurie views the conversations harmless and is glad to see Phillip doing well. When Sally asks Laurie about her relationship with Phillip, she states that “she has a good rapport with Phillip, and he is doing well.” Sally expresses concerns about her observation of interactions between Laurie and Phillip.
- End the scenario with Laurie’s supervisor discussing the clinical supervision discussion. Include past concepts such as code of ethics, professional boundaries, ethical decision-making principles, and professional competency in your response.
- Describe how you would provide a peer consultation to Laurie if you were Sally. Support the ethical decision making principles by professionally discussing your concerns.
