Myths about informal networks

In the Cross (2002) article, the author suggests six myths about informal networks.  After reading the article:

  1. Share with the class any examples when you have seen any of the myths perpetuated in your professional or even personal life.
  2. Describe the extent to which there is evidence from other literature sources supporting the notion that these ideas are truly “myths”.
  3. As with most things that people take to be “true” and are later considered “myths” there has to be some anecdotal evidence to support the original “truth” in the first place.   Make an argument for conditions under which some of these “myths” might indeed be “truths”.
