You are the prime minister of Italy with a shrinking population due to a low birth rate. Each year thousands of migrants attempt to enter Italy from northern Africa by crossing the Mediterranean. Many of those who survive the journey seek to continue onward from Italy to other parts of Europe.
Political parties that have gained control of governments of Austria, Germany, Slovenia, and Spain have stated that they will work toward invoking Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union against Italy if it does not stop the flow of migrants across its borders. Italian national elections will occur in six months. If your political party wins the majority of seats in Italy’s parliament, you will achieve your goal of serving another term as prime minister.
