New Legislation – The Right to Disconnect from Work in Ontario
All businesses are required to operate within the legal framework of the province. The government of Ontario has recently introduced a new ”right to disconnect from work” legislation, effective June 2, 2022, under the Employment Standards Act.
Form teams of 4 to 5 members, research and respond to the following questions:
1. What does this mean for the employers from 2022 onwards? (12 marks)
2. What do you see as the advantages and the potential drawbacks of such a legislation? (8 marks)
3. Develop a draft policy for your CEO for approval. In your policy, include the policy objective, scope of policy application, policies, managers’ and employee’s responsibilities. (20 marks)
4. Outline the approach and steps you would take to implement and communicate this policy? (10 marks)
