Despite the the many celebrity cases, sexual addiction is not a disorder recognized in the DSM 5. A proposal was put forward and its inclusion was considered, but ultimately rejected.

What were the proposed criteria for the disorder, why did some clinicians want it to be included,  and why was it rejected. In regards to perception of this disorder; Is it a real disorder or just something a person invokes when they are caught cheating or engaging in socially unacceptable sexual behaviors.
