Z score example

Reply to a Peer with the following: State whether you agree or disagree with their z score example. Is this an appropriate example for a z score? why or why not?

2. Explain whether you used the same or a different strategy to solve the last question on the individual assignment. If you used a different strategy, explain.

Peer’s discussion:

1. Come up with an example of a time when it would be useful to use a z-score. This must be your own original example.

One example a real world use for a z-score would be finding out what weight or size is normal for babies compared to your newborn baby. For example, if your newborn’s z-score for height was 2.68, they would be 2.68 standard deviations away from the mean, meaning that they are taller than the average newborn.

2. Discuss the process you went through to answer the last question on the individual assignment for this week. Explain how you found the answer and what, specifically, you did to find and calculate that answer.

· 1. I calculated the z score of 315 by doing 315 – 349.474 (mean) and divided by 14.033 (SD). This gave me a z score of -2.46. I calculated the z score for 350 which came to be 0.037 but I rounded to 0.04 for this problem.

· 2. I went to the appendix and located the 2.46 z score and found that it corresponded to 49.31. Then I looked up the 0.04 z score and found that it corresponded to 1.60. I then drew out the curve to visualize what the question was asking.

· 3. I added both of the areas, 49.31 + 0.04 to give me a combined 50.91.

· 4. The answer is 50.91% of businesses would have between 315 and 350 likes
