The traits to academic performance

In our previous discussions, we looked at a survey conducted at Michigan State University. In that survey, students were asked a series of questions, ranging from their traits to academic performance. We employed all 141 observations in this survey to examine if academic engagement and alcohol consumption have any significant effects on academic performance. Now that we know about multivariate analysis, we are going to expand upon our model and see if academic performance, as measured by college GPA, depends on high school GPA, ACT score, membership in Greek societies, membership in university clubs, academic engagement, or alcohol consumption.

The posttraumatic stress disorder

A man with social anxiety is taught to breathe deeply and slowly in the presence of crowds. A woman with generalized anxiety disorder is encouraged to record her worry-related thoughts and to question how realistic and helpful they are. A soldier with posttraumatic stress disorder is slowly exposed to objects, such as military equipment, that are increasingly reminiscent of the combat setting where she experienced her trauma. A new father with generalized anxiety disorder is constantly worried that his infant daughter will die while she is sleeping. He is asked to focus on each worrying thought and to think of as many other alternatives as possible (for example, the baby is sleeping quietly).

The generalized anxiety disorder

Although worry is a characteristic feature of generalized anxiety disorder, it can also be perfectly normal and even helpful. How is the worry found in generalized anxiety disorder different from common or healthy worry? Check all that apply. It is easy for the person to stop the worrying when it is not effective. It invariably leads to panic attacks. It is excessive and not in proportion to the actual risk or problem. It is difficult for the person to stop or control the worrying. It is focused on a small number of major life events.

The theory that personality traits and emotional abilities can influence creativity

The study is grounded in the theory that personality traits and emotional abilities can influence creativity. The problem identified is the lack of understanding about how these factors interact to predict creativity. The purpose of the study is to address this gap in the literature. The research question and hypothesis are directly related to this purpose and are designed to test the theory. The correlational design aligns with the research question and hypothesis as it allows for the examination of relationships between variables.

Develop intercultural competence

How can we evaluate others’ facial expressions to better understand their emotions? Does this work when the communicator is attempting to hide or mask his or her emotions? Can we use facial expressions to overcome cultural differences or barriers or develop intercultural competence? How might someone from another culture use facial expressions similarly or differently? Do you believe that it is possible to detect a lie by evaluating someone’s facial expressions? Why or why not? If possible, provide an example of a lie you detected or one someone detected you telling. What gave it away?

The social learning theory

Though you are a novice instructor, you are certain that you would prefer to use the essence of a social learning theory approach to motivate your classroom. Which of the following activities would best fit with this approach? Group of answer choices Place students in straight rows and minimize interaction so that they become intrinsically motivated. Let students know that you accept them as they are and are willing to help them learn. Allow students to roam freely and socialize in an effort to lessen anxiety. Reinforce students who exhibit desired behaviors.

New approaches to strengthen memory

For his dissertation project in psychology, Antonio is studying new approaches to strengthen memory. He can apply these techniques to create interactive Web-based instructional modules.  He plans to test these modules with students (ages 18 or older) in a general psychology course, for which he is a teaching assistant.  He expects that student volunteers who use the modules will subsequently perform better on examinations than other students.  He hopes to publish the results in a conference proceeding on research in learning, because he plans to apply for an academic position after he completes the doctorate.Should Antonio seek IRB approval for his project? If the answer to question #1 is yes, what type of IRB review would be appropriate? Can this study be exempted? Why or why not?Do student volunteers need to give formal informed consent? If so, what information needs to be included in the consent document?

How hyper active behavior affects students

A student is referred for behavior analytic services due to hyper active behavior in her kindergarten classroom. The behavior analyst set up a time-sampling data collection system for the teaching assistant to collect data on out of seat behavior, on task behavior, and appropriate play behavior. Depending on the specific class activity, it maybe necessary to collect data on more than one behavior during the same observation time. Which is the most practical time sampling system? a. Collecting on task behavior, appropriate play, and out of seat behaviors via momentary time sampling. b. Collecting on task and appropriate play data via momentary time sampling , collecting out of seat behavior via partial interval data c. Collecting on task data via momentary time sampling, collecting appropriate play data via partial interval recording, collecting out of seat via whole interval collecting on task and appropriate play data via whole interval recording , collecting out of seat data via partial interval data
