The effects of repression

Answer either Discussion Questions/Personal Reflections option #1 on pg 34 OR DQ #2 on pg 48.

For Option #1: In addition to the questions posed in the book, also include potential diseases that may result from that repression, Include at least one research study that explains the effects of repression on your health (discuss with us, not a friend).

For Option #2: For the therapies that you would like to try and the ones that would not try, find a scientific research article that shows the potential health benefit of each of those therapies.

Refer to the DB Grading Rubric: GRADING RUBRIC FOR DISCUSSIONS-1.pdf  for help in composing your answer and don’t forget to cite your sources.

Neurobiological basis

Briefly explain the neurobiological basis for PTSD illness. • Discuss the DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria for PTSD and justify your reasoning. Do you agree with the other diagnoses of oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder in the case presentation? Why or why not? • Discuss psychotherapy treatment options of cognitive therapy for the client in this case study. Explain whether your treatment option is considered a “gold standard treatment” from a clinical practice guideline perspective, and why using gold standard, evidence-based treatments from clinical practice guidelines is important for psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners.

Objective of the Great Cookie

The Great Cookie Experiment

  1. What is the objective of the Great Cookie Experiment? Researchers conducted a study to evaluate the quality and overall preference of two chocolate chip cookies that were identical, except for one change in one ingredient, namely the use of sugar in comparison to sugar-free cookies.
  2. What is the research question of the Great Cookie Experiment?  What is the preference of participants in a workplace setting between cookie A (no sugar) and cookie B (sugar)?
  3. What is the sample size of this experiment?A staff of 300 nurses who were assigned to pediatrics and obstetrics at a major hospital as well as a community hospital served as participants in the research study.
  4. Describe the methodology of the Great Cookie Experiment.A voluntary recruitment procedure was used to recruit participants by inviting them to staff meetings, sending them emails, or hanging posters in the lounges of the offices. As part of data collection, one day, one evening, and one night shift was conducted at the main hospital. This was followed by a weekend day shift at the community hospital, together with a one-weekend day shift at the main hospital. To gather data, the data collectors were familiar with the study but were blinded to what cookie was placed in which box in the study. It was the catering staff’s responsibility to prepare and place the cookies in either box A or box B at the hospital.

Nurses gave informed consent and participated in the study of their own volition and their employment would not be affected if they chose not to participate. To ensure that there were no allergies, a list of all the ingredients that would be used in the cookies was posted on the table. Participants were required to read the ingredients before they were able to sign consent forms.

As a taste test, each of them was given a regular chocolate chip cookie as well as a sugar-free cookie to try. Upon taking a bite of the chocolate chip cookie, they would record their responses on the cookie assessment scale. They would then rinse their mouth with water, and then take a bite of the second cookie and record their responses on the cookie assessment scale as well.

5. What type of study is the Great Cookie Experiment? It was a descriptive, crossover, double-blinded study using a convenience sampling of  300 staff nurses.

6. What is your hypothesis of which cookie the subjects will prefer?  I think that when given the option to choose either a regular chocolate cookie or a sugar-free cookie, the nurses will choose the regular chocolate cookie. I believe that participants will find that regular chocolate chips are more appealing because they have sugar added to them rather than no-sugar cookies.

7. Study limitations are weaknesses in a research study design that can influence the outcomes of the research. Identify limitations of the Great Cookie Experiment methodology. What may have impacted the results? Trying 2 cookies may affect the responses. After biting the first cookie even though you’re rinsing out your mouth; it could affect the second cookie.

8. How would you modify the Great Cookie Experiment to improve the methodology? One potential modification to improve the methodology of the cookie experiment would be to increase the sample size to increase the power of the study. Another modification could be to have participants try both cookies at different time intervals, rather than trying them back-to-back, to avoid any potential carryover effects. Another option would be to add randomization to the assignment of the regular and sugar-free cookies to reduce potential bias.

9. The implication of a research study suggests how the findings may be important for policy, practice, theory, and subsequent research. What could the implication of this research be? As a creative, fun, and exciting teaching strategy, the great American cookie experiment has become an important tool for enhancing knowledge and engaging students in the process of conducting research.

10. What patterns did you discover in the data? Discuss in detail. The data shows that most nurses (62%) prefer regular chocolate chips, which means that regular chocolate chips are the most popular choice among the nurses. While 28% of nurses prefer sugar-free cookies, which is the second most popular choice. And the remaining 10% of nurses have no preference. These percentages indicate that regular chocolate chips are the clear favorite among the nurses, and sugar-free cookies are the second most popular choice.

11. Did the results support or deviate from your hypothesis? Regarding the hypothesis that more nurses would prefer regular chocolate chip cookies, the results align with it. Most nurses, 62%, preferred regular chocolate chip cookies. This supports the hypothesis that more nurses would prefer regular chocolate chip cookies.

12. Detail an explanation for your observed phenomena. According to the survey, 84 nurses (28%) preferred sugar-free cookies, while 186 nurses (62%) preferred ordinary chocolate chips. 10% of the nurses—30—had no preference. Most nurses (62%) preferred traditional chocolate chips over sugar-free cookies, indicating that taste may have been more important to them than health considerations when choosing their cookies. This might be the case because nurses are more concerned with gratifying their taste buds than they are with the extra calories or sugar in conventional chocolate chips. The nurses might have previously tasted both varieties of cookies and discovered that they preferred the flavor of ordinary chocolate chips to those of sugar-free cookies.

I need help with the following questions based on the answers above.

13. Based on the results and conclusions of this experiment, what question would you like to answer next? Develop a testable research question for a new, modified cookie experiment.

14. What is your objective for this research question?

15 How will you test your research question? Write detailed steps(be specific) of your methodology.

Designing and implementing communication

You are considering designing and implementing communication (social marketing) strategies in your city regarding insecticide-treated mosquito nets. Provide a critical discussion on how you will achieve effective and successful health communication (social marketing) strategies, The debate should be based on the following essential aspects:

  1. Provide an overview of the overall communication goals of the intervention in the subject.
  2. Explain the relevance of understanding the target population,  using multiple communication and media strategies, and tailoring messages to the communication channel being used.
  3. Critically evaluate the current social marketing strategies for bed nets in your country and comment on their effectiveness in meeting the principles of effective communication

Participating in a virtually holistic healing environment

We know that nurses working in healthcare today are experiencing stress, anxiety, and suffering during the COVID-19 pandemic, often without concern and caring for themselves. This often leads to burnout, moral distress, depression, and the possible exodus from the profession.

As a nurse experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic, I seek your insight into the following:

Do you think nurses would benefit from participating in a virtually holistic healing environment designed by nurses for nurses to strengthen their resilience and power for caring for themselves?

Why or why not? (Not just yes or no)

Major areas of sociological interest

Religion, Politics, Gender, and Class

The first set of topics includes two major areas of sociological interest: religion and politics. We may not ordinarily think of popular music as an important feature of these two social institutions, but it certainly is. Music functions as a powerful tool for accomplishing religious and political tasks. This power comes from music’s ability to provide meaning for theology and ideology. Please indicate/reference the reading and page numbers in parentheses where you find the material in our books. Read Ch. 5 in Understanding.
(1) Briefly define religion sociologically. What are the five ways music relates to religion? Give an example for each from the reading
(2) Briefly describe John Michael Talbot. Why has he considered a postmodern case of authenticity? Google JMT and examine his homepage and view some of his recent cable TV programs. How has he incorporated contemporary media logic into his ministry? How do he and his ministry compare to your religious/spiritual upbringing
(3) Briefly define ideology. How can popular music be used for conservative as well as liberal/progressive purposes? How does the concept of hegemony fit in with this discussion? What side would you take, and what music fits your ideological position?
(4) What is the sociological definition of the institution? How does American Idol support conservative values in America? In what ways is The Voice, American Idol, and other competitions like the American presidential election process?
_______________________________________
The second set of topics includes two areas of sociological interest: gender and social class. The purpose of this array of topics is to show how central popular music is to structural sociological analysis, that is, those aspects of society that reflect society as a whole and are closely related to macro ideas such as status differences and inequality. Please indicate the page numbers of the readings where you find the material. Read Ch. 6 in Understanding.
1) Summarize the West Memphis Three situation. How does this unfortunate situation illustrate the limits of the community? Explore the Internet to see if there is any update on the case.
(2) What do sociologists mean by doing gender? Give another example of a current prima donna, besides Jessica Simpson. Name one male musical performer who can be considered a prima donna, and why?
(3) What is the sociological definition of authenticity? Briefly discuss Katy Perry’s and Billie Eilish’s authenticity. In your opinion, has authenticity among women musical artists changed recently?

The fundamental human drive for happiness

Compare/Contrast Death of a Salesman and The Doll’s House.
Compare and contrast the two plays, focusing especially on themes/ideas the two plays share in common or help illuminate. We will cover some of these in class, but a partial list would include such things as the divided life/identity; false dreams of self-fulfillment; the hunger for status, especially related to a certain amount of wealth and possessions; the fragmentation of family; the fundamental human drive for happiness; and so forth. The Actor’s Social/Cultural or
Political reflection
This paper will focus on cultural/political/social reflection and the influence films and actors have had. Student the cultural/political/social impact the star and film had relevant to the film’s era. Why was the actor in this film important? What barriers did both the actor and film break? Again, this is not entirely a research paper. It’s important to see your own
reaction to the performance and how you see the effect of the actor/film in regard to cultural/political or social influence. As with Response 1, it’s integral to see the actor in this film through your eyes!  The minimum word requirement is 600 to 750
words but feel free to expand if needed. Cite

Numerical values describing the resources

1) Identify a soil resource of interest (this should be a region or county) anywhere in the world and describe how it is being used and why it is important.
2) Summarize attributes of soil and water resources that exist in that region. Please use a tabular format or list that includes numerical values describing the resources. This information should help you understand how susceptible soil and water resources might be to degradation. Please cite any data sources you use to develop this section.
3) Summarize important factors (climate, land use, demographic), that have and will likely cause soil change. Include an original graphic or table that helps you summarize ideas and explain relationships between factors and functions. If you adopt an image or figure that someone else published indicate this in the figure or table legend.
4) Speculate about the current soil condition (provide evidence if you can) and discuss how factors identified above (#3) are likely to influence soil function.
5) Explain why you think this soil could or could not resist or recover from the degradative processes identified above.
6) Discuss the implications of soil change for water quality and quantity.
