The variety of roles paralegals deliver for their clients and firms in the practice of family law

Chapter 1 discusses the variety of roles paralegals deliver for their clients and firms in the practice of family law. Please address the following: 1. Which role are you best equipped to fulfill? Why? I know that I will be most effective in helping with new clients in the firm. I have years of experience in customer service roles, which will come in handy when clients call in asking for general information about the law firm.

My friendly and helpful demeanor will be appealing and will surely bring in potential clients. I will be an asset when clients gather files and documents to support their cases because I am very thorough.

There are several other things I think I would do well at with the paralegal’s role with new clients. 2. What personal attributes do you have that might make filling this role or other roles easier for you and why? As mentioned above, my thoroughness and attention to detail will be impactful in assisting new clients; especially with gathering documents.

I also feel like my timeliness and ability to keep a tight schedule will be essential to my law firm in keeping track of clients’ cases, deadlines, and statutes of limitations. 3. Which role will be most difficult for you to fulfill? Why? The role that l have the most area of opportunity in would be trial preparation and trial.

The trial aspect is daunting. As a beginner in the legal world, going to court and prepping for the court is the most intimidating role. I will be nervous to make a mistake and my nervousness may be felt by the client and cause them to be more anxious. 4. What can you do to improve your skillset so you are more of an asset to your law firm and can improve your ability to perform all paralegal duties?

I can improve my skillset by continuing my education, watching trials, and keeping track of current events/ issues in the family law world. Being coachable and being aware of your opportunities for improvement is the most effective way to continue to be a better asset for your employer. Another way to maintain current knowledge on family law is to take continuing legal education courses regularly.

The Effect incarceration can have on an individual

Some of the information in this module relates to the effect incarceration can have on an individual. Your task is to use your resources and discuss these effects, and if you feel like the criminal justice system itself should be responsible for alleviating the stress that can come with being jailed.

Explain your point of view fully.
