Lego Inventory Analysis
The attached Lego Inventory Worksheet has a list of all Lego kits in our inventory of toys. The Annual Cost of Goods Sold is the amount in dollars sold for an entire year (365 days) for each item. You will need to compute the Daily Cost of Goods Sold for each item. The Inventory Level $ is the dollar value currently in inventory for each item.
Compute the Days on Hand for each Lego kit. This is the number of days that we anticipate our inventory level will last, before we need another delivery from the factory.
Identify the kits with over 93 Days on Hand (over 3 months supply in inventory).
Our goal is to sale these kits, so we are not holding so much excess inventory.
Identify the kits with less than 2 Days on Hand (We will run out tomorrow).
We do not want to run out of items that customers are buying.
In a one page Executive Summary, identify the items we have too much of in stock and recommend what we should do with those kits. Also identify which items we are about to run out of and what we should do in the future with those kits.

There have been a couple of students who are very worried about the Tests. As I mentioned before, this is a difficult course with significant amount of material, and thus the exams are not easy tasks. Some students are able to do very well on them, but others, being good students as well, tend to struggle.

I am not sure where the mystery is, and in addition to the things I have already shared and done for the class, I can’t do much more. Still, I want to remind you that the total class grade is the result of various tasks and activities, and not only your Tests are important.

Also, you can drop (or not take) one exam and you would only have 3 exams to count for final grade. In short, it is too early to panic. Finally, you do have to manage your expectations; an “A” in Psychopathology is not easy or even common, although in the same vein, if a student stick with the class, and does the work, a C or even a B is realistic.

Having said that, I will be posting the Reviews ahead of time with a few Test questions for you to practice and feel more confident for next one.

Well, we have covered already a significant portion of the most typical disorders you will encounter in psychopathology.

In addition to this week’s topic (personality disorders) the other one major category of disorders will be the psychotic disorders. All of them will make the bulk of the work of a practicing clinician. Obviously, that will not include those who are involved with children, or in the practice of neuropsychology, both of which are specialty areas in Clinical Psychology.

That does not mean you may not see those cases in general practice, but in principle any complicated child case or Neuro case you will refer to a specialist. The trend today, in contrast to the time when I was trained, is more and more specialization, and if you are planning to go into this field, it will probably be what you would do. Those areas may include things such as addictive disorders, eating disorders, trauma, relationships, sexual disorders, pain management, sleep disorders, etc.

I hope that thus far, you have become aware of the importance of a good assessment, and a good grasp of major areas in psychopathology. The next step, and a crucial one if you are going to practice, is the ability to connect with your patient and understand his or her dilemma as they bring this or that problem to you.

Diagnoses are only your starting point, a ball park orientation to the main symptoms the patient is presenting to you; from there you need to recreate a narrative in which both of you could work towards a resolution of the patient’s problems. Along with this awareness is the need to understand the role of culture in the presentation of the symptoms as well as in the interpretation we make of what ails the person.

Each patient is unique in the way they suffer and the meaning of that suffering in their lives. Sometimes a practical goal of therapy may be the elimination of the particular problem, let’s say Panic Disorder, but other times, it may mean the incorporation and acceptance of issues or events they can’t change such as childhood abuse or chronic illness.

On these, the problems you can’t solve and the pain you can’t take away, you have to work with your patient in adaptation to the lingering impact of their conditions to their lives. Here is the area when Psychology is most lacking, and Philosophy and even Religion may be a potent ally in your efforts at helping your patient. In the book that I wrote, I address some of these issues, which I consider extremely important to understand and succor your patients.

This week!

Now, turning our attention to the topic for this week. This is a very interesting area and one that is constantly in the news!

Think about the people who make the news, from criminals to celebrities, how many of them do you think you could be diagnosed with a personality disorder?

Now all of us have our own “quirks” , and all of us have a personality (I hope!). However, most of us would not probably be diagnosed with a disordered personality because one has to have a “maladaptive pattern of dysfunction” and it has to extend to our thinking, feelings and behaviors, as well as to our relationship to other people.

The Five-Factor theory has been very popular in the last few years. Remember this acronym: OCEAN and you will remember it.

O=Openness to experience, C=Conscientiousness E= Extroversion A= Agreeableness N=Neuroticism.

The history of personality theory is fascinating going back to ancient Greeks. If interested read upon the humor theory as it relates to personality, interesting!

Personality disorders are now grouped on 3 basic major groups or cluster. This is important to remember:

Cluster A= Those odd or eccentric (Think “paranoid” very bad “geeks” called schizoids and schizoptypal)

Cluster B= The “drama queens and kings” , emotional types or “erratic”; that is the histrionic, borderline, narcissistic and anti-socials.

Cluster C=The anxious types avoidant, dependent, OC folks.

Despite the neat categories the trend is going towards developing a “dimensional model” which it was initially slated to go into effect in the DSM5, but it did not quite make it; I’m sure it will be added in the next version.

Ok these are the points I would like to emphasize and I want you to learn.

For this week and looking ahead:

1. Read Chapter 10 from our Textbook.

2. Read Sims’s Chapter 21 and Fernandez’s “You don’t Count” (see below) and “The Fourth of July” pgs 143-146. Also pages 22-57

Class Participation: This is a Borderline Personality Disorder patient I treated earlier in my career. There were also other issues such as alcohol, depression, etc, but the dynamics of the patient-therapist relationship were very interesting as well. As with many patients one would treat in therapy, this young woman had multiple issues, all connected to her basic personality style.

She was a long-term therapy case, unfortunately unless you are in private practice it would be hard to do these days; we all want quickies! But quickies do not work with these patients and the steady, strenuous, and consistent work is what really works. I hope you enjoy it.

You don’t Count!

I was sitting in front of a young, angry, tearful and disheveled young woman who had presented herself to our clinic to get help with depression, poor sleep and failing grades. She was a second year college student, who over the last few months had become increasingly depressed and unable to focus on her studies or anything else for that matter.

She started to tell me her story. She had been a model and at one time was making good money from it. She had money, fashionable clothes and she was able to travel widely in pursue of her career goals.

In one of her travels, she had met an older man, a successful businessman, and they started a long term relationship. Their story was as passionate as it was romantic. They had been to many places, but her favorite was Venice. She had very distinct memories of the days they had spent there; she was a princess enraptured in the fantasy of a life time. Something however, went wrong, and their idyllic castle came crashing down.

What followed was a series of very short term relationships, always seeking to fill an emptiness no man was ever able to fill. Then, she started drinking and using drugs, she abandoned her career, and eventually became more and more depressed, hopeless and suicidal.  As she was telling me her story, she became increasingly frustrated and verbally aggressive. Her ire was directed to men; they were pigs; insensitive, uncaring, abusive. I began to feel very uncomfortable, and not having enough experience at this point in my life, I did not know what to do. I wanted to help her, but I wasn’t sure how. I also realized that her rage was getting to me, making me unease and unsure.

Attempting to bring down the intensity of her motional barrage I tried to inject humor by noting that if all men were pigs, what chance I had to help her, since as she could notice, I was a man.  She looked at me sardonically and with a sharp remark shoot me down and said: – You don’t count!

I let her talk for almost the whole hour, and by the end, at the risk of looking silly, I told her this was a good session (I doubted) and I would be delighted to see her again (false!). To my surprise, she assented and made a follow up appointment. What followed was several weeks, which became months of fairly intense therapy.

We revisit her past (poor relationships with parents), her present (she needed to assume responsibility over her choices) and her future (what kind of life she expected to have). I tolerated her anger, supported her suffering and always encouraged her to see herself different, to learn to forgive and to accept the inevitable blows of life and her own “imperfect” human condition.

As time passed, her mood improved and her ability to regain control of her life significantly changed for the better. She started to do well in her classes and appeared happier with her life. She also began to change in another aspect.

This disheveled and tearful woman I had met several months ago, was turning into a great looking, attractive and very well-dressed young woman. Among my peers there was an increased interest to see “Luis’ Pretty Patient” and several of them would make a point to come across the clinic’s waiting room to take a peek at this beautiful lady.

The tone of our sessions also changed. There was little anger now, but a lot more flirtation. She made a few remarks about developing a friendship, becoming close, having outside sessions.

In Christmas, she wanted to give me a very expensive present, which I declined; I was not allowed to receive gifts from patients, I said. This became a difficult phase in our treatment. Once again, this young woman was challenging my abilities and testing the limits of my role as a Psychotherapist. Then one summer day, she came to session dressed in a fine linen white dress; she looked stunning. As we walked into the therapy room, she asked me to switch places, which I found peculiar.

But not having a reason to object I told her that was fine. She sat on the chair I typically used, which was exactly in front of a window through which light came into the room. This was a calculated effort at seduction; the sunlight behind her revealed her naked figure and she knew it! I don’t recall that session very well.

I only remember feeling extremely uncomfortable and ashamed, I babbled a few words here and there and she had complete control of the session and of me. Right after she left, I contacted my clinical supervisor, who heard my distressed and my expressed discouragement of ever being an ineffective Clinician; I was tempted and lost control of the session. My clinical supervisor, an older very experience Psychologist was very receptive and sympathetic towards me.

He gave me a clinical sound advice about counter-transference, how to handle it and to use it for the patient’s benefit. Most importantly, as I was leaving, in a very sympathetic manner said:- Don’t worry Luis, I have had this same experience before, just learn from it, and remember it is not about you!

Next session, I brought up the subject with her. She was a beautiful woman and easy to like. I felt she had done this because she really wants to be desired and loved by someone she admires and feels grateful for his help, but I was the wrong man.

I was her doctor, and my job was to help her not hurt her as other men had done in her life; I was committed to be different. This was a turning point for her and for our therapy. Now things began to move more rapidly and we began working towards termination.

When the final day came, she brought a small present I could not refuse. I was leaving to start my career and she had brought a very nice planner with my initials engraved in it. She told me she wanted me to remember her and use this calendar in my first year as a practicing Psychologist, then with a mischievous look on her face she added-Are you sure you don’t want to have a couple of drinks with me before you leave?

I smiled back to her and said- Laura, you know if we go out for a drink neither one of us will be doing the right thing, let’s leave it where it is now. She burst out laughing and said – I know Doc, I know.

I never saw her again, but I heard years later she had married and had a couple of kiddos, for all accounts she was a happy woman.

Differences between Qualitative and quantitative methods

Investigating differences between qualitative and quantitative methods. Many times research articles will specify which method was used by the researchers in the “Methods” section of an article.

For this Discussion, you will analyze the similarities and differences between qualitative and quantitative methodology. Also, you will critically examine a research question to determine the best method to investigate the question.

The research question is:  Which research method is better for investigating the impact of music on my client’s mood, qualitative or quantitative?

Be sure to support your posting with references and learning resources.  And be sure to use proper APA format and citations.  Minimum 3 sentences per paragraph to ensure you fully explain your thoughts, feelings, and ideas.

Eating patterns

Our nutrition and eating patterns are shaped by our perceptions of food; what we have learned to like and dislike, what we feel is healthful, and it is even formed by our family, cultural, and religious beliefs.

For this discussion, list five foods/liquids you like and five foods/liquids you don’t like and/or avoid. For each you like, describe why you like them. For example, you might say I like to eat chocolate chip cookies because they remind me of my grandmother.

For the five you do not like to eat/avoid, explain why. For example, you might say I don’t eat lima beans because they taste too mushy in my mouth or I don’t drink milk because I am lactose intolerant, or I don’t eat beef because of religious beliefs.

In addition to explaining why you don’t like the five foods/liquids, also include what it would take (if possible) for you to overcome your dislike of the food/liquid.

Executive Summary

India is among the fastest emerging economies globally. India’s Gross Domestic Product

(GDP) is higher than most emerging economies. The country is located in Asia and has a

population of 1.4 billion (Worldometer, 2022). Expansion to the Indian market through export

has been made possible by the nation’s friendliness to developed nations like the U.S.A. Various

factors present an opportunity for companies that want to enter the Indian market. The country’s

population is the first opportunity companies can look at when expanding their markets.

India is a member of the World Trade Organization and other trade organizations that

improve trade pacts with India. Companies would leverage these pacts to enter the market. Pacts

like bilateral trade agreements offer a more suitable way for companies to enter India through

export. The Indian system offers more opportunities for United States companies that want to

export various products to India. However, exports to India are limited to certain industries,

including energy, healthcare, environmental technology, safety and security, information

communication, and technology. The infrastructure favors exports as they are dependent on road,

rail, air, and sea.

The Entering a Foreign Market Through Exports

India is one of the fastest emerging economies globally. The country’s Gross Domestic

Product (GDP) has been on the rise over the last two decades after the nation initiated various

trading agreements in 1991. Since then, the United States has been one of India’s largest trading

partners. This creates an opportunity for United States companies that want to export to India.

India has the second-largest population after its neighbor China. According to Worldometer

(2022), India’s population in 2022 will be 1.4 billion, with a population growth rate of 1.02%.

The population is composed of a massive youthful population as the country’s median age is 28.4

years. Exporting to India presents challenges like high tariffs and protection policies, price

sensitivity, poor infrastructure compared to developed nations, and the power of the twenty-nine

Indian states. However, some benefits and opportunities are present for companies that want to

export to India. The opportunities include the foreign policy on trade, export assistance, fewer

export compliance issues, and the high youthful Indian population. This paper looks at how High

Tech Tools, Inc., a United States company, can leverage some of the opportunities to enter the

Indian market through exports.

Benefits of Exporting High Tech Equipment to India

India introduced foreign policies in trade which have, over the last two decades, helped

the nation grow its trade internationally (Menon, 2021). The foreign policy of 1991 focused on

improving India’s trade through economic cooperation and trade agreements with various

nations. India joined the World Trade Organization in 1995 to enhance its trade relations. The

country also has various bilateral trade agreements with other nations, including the United

States, which would increase its international trade. The presence of India in international trade

presents an opportunity for nations that want to export to India. This includes nations that partner

with India in various trade organizations and bilateral agreements. These agreements and trade

1

4

pacts make it easier to export high-tech equipment to India. Companies can leverage the

agreements to export to India.

Exporting to India would significantly expand the international market for High Tech

Tools, Inc. This is because India offers a good market opportunity for the company’s main

product, high-tech equipment. India’s youthful population is more likely to accept the high-tech

equipment due to its various uses in ports and measuring the speed of moving objects. In sport

cricket is the most dominant sport in India. The sport has various similarities to baseball in the

United States and would benefit from the use of high-tech equipment to measure the ball’s speed.

India presents more export opportunities than challenges. The country has trading

opportunities in energy, healthcare, environmental technology, safety and security, information

communication and technology, and others (Mallick & Marques, 2017). The export assistance

offered for United States companies exporting to India makes it easier for companies entering the

Indian market through exports. The export assistance is offered through trade missions, the U.S.

Chamber of Commerce, and the U.S. Commercial Services Offices.

India’s Infrastructure

According to the World Bank (2011), roads are India’s most dominant transport system.

They carry 85% of the country’s passenger traffic and more than 60% of its freight. The road

networks are developed in the cities and towns in India. This makes road transport the most

convenient mode of transportation in India. The country also has a developed rail transport

system which ferries over 19.8 million passengers and 2.4 million tons of freight daily (World

Bank, 2011). This is based on data from 2011, and the numbers are likely to have increased by

2022. Rail is India’s largest employer due to the freights carried daily.

5

International trade is dependent on various factors that include an effective transport

system. India offers an effective transport system that can be used in transporting goods within

the nation. The road network can effectively be used in transporting goods within all the cities in

India. This is the main advantage of exporting to India. The country has a vast transport network

that will allow the movement of goods to remote regions. (Manonman, 2018). India’s transport

network opens up the country’s remote regions, allowing access to all regions. The vast road

network will also allow for the movement of raw materials, equipment, and others.

The nation also has a vast rail network that can effectively transport large cargo. The rail

transport network is a unified state enterprise and one of the largest railway systems in the world.

The railway network has also undergone major changes that have broadened the network making

it more effective for the transportation of large cargo. The company would highly benefit from

the rail network when transporting large cargo within the nation. This is a major advantage for

High Tech Tools, Inc., which may have to transport large cargo within the nation. The rail

network will be used as a link from the ocean when the cargo lands in the U.S.

India is among the most innovative nations globally. Digital communication has evolved

in the nations, with more people using smartphones as a means of communication. This has

improved communication both locally and internationally. The internet is also advanced in India

as various telecommunications companies offer internet services. The transport and

communications systems in India are advanced, making logistics easier in India.

Supply Chain Assessment

The supply chain is an important aspect of the export plan of the company. The supply

chain consists of the people, enterprises, and processes that are involved in the manufacture,

distribution, transportation, storage, and delivering the final product to the customer. The supply

1

9

6

chain process starts with the raw materials that are needed for the manufacture of the goods. It

also includes the methods that are used in the manufacture of the product and the procedures

involved in the promotion of the product. High Tech Tools, Inc. has to conduct a SWOT analysis

of the supply chain in India or come up with the strengths and weaknesses of the supply chain to

effectively prepare for the export business. High Tech Tools, Inc. has to use the supply chain to

secure a competitive advantage and improve its performance.

Strengths

The company manufactures high-tech equipment like the hand-held radar speed gun. This

is a specialty for the company meaning the product is of high quality. A high-quality product is a

supply chain strength as it is able to attract more customers. The company is able to venture to

other markets due to the quality of its product. The decision of the company to expand overseas

is based on the quality f the product. The company is sure to attract more markets based on the

quality of the product. The quality of the product is based on various factors, which include the

manufacturing strategy (Diaconu & Alpopi, 2014). The manufacturing strategy of the company

is well defined and used as recommended in the production of quality products.

The company has a stable market share leading to the decision to expand to overseas

markets. It has a clear trend in the exportation of their products in foreign markets. The market

chosen for export has cricket as the national sport. This will ensure the stability of the product in

the market. The stability of the product in the market is based on different factors which the

company can use to gain a competitive advantage. The stability in the market gives the company

an edge over its competitors in the new market.

Weaknesses

4

6

13

15

7

The company has failed to provide information on the measurement of the supply chain.

There has to exist a planning process for the supply chain to be used as a competitive advantage.

However, the lack of a measurement process for the supply chain, a weakness of low

contribution to the development of a strategy will exist. This is a weakness as it will have an

adverse impact on the overall picture of the company. The company aims to expand to foreign

markets, and a measurement of the strategy will ensure a planning process exists. India is among

emerging markets and highly competitive. This requires a planning process that will be used to

measure the supply chain.

Factors of Competitive Advantage

The vast growth of India over the last several decades has led to an increase in the

number of multinational companies globally. All these companies are looking to set up shop in

India and capitalize on the huge Indian population and other factors. The competition in India

has grown exponentially with the increase in the number of multinational companies in India.

These companies also have to deal with various issues like an undeveloped supply chain and

factors of competitive advantage. Some of the factors of competitive advantage in India include

marketing factors, production factors, and research and development factors (Mukerjee, 2016).

The choice of India as a market is based on the fact that the company’s product is able to

measure the bowling speed of a cricket ball. Cricket is the national sport of India and is played

all over the country. The marketing factors of competitive advantage in India include the

production mix and pricing. The product has to meet the various needs of the customer for the

company to be able to create a competitive advantage with it. The company can only maximize

profit if the product is able to meet the various needs of the customer. Therefore, the design of

the product should consider the importance of cricket to the country.

The price of the product is a major marketing tool that can be used in directing the

product to a specific customer segment. The price of the product is an important factor to

consider as it should ensure a return on investment. The price should be equal to the expectations

of the customer. Therefore, the price strategy should look at various factors in India, including

the economic conditions of India. The price should also be able to meet the customer’s

expectations. A premium pricing strategy will lead to fewer products being sold due to the

prevailing economic factors in India. The product is not a necessity, and the price should

consider all factors that will ensure the price becomes a competitive advantage for the company.

Economies of scale and locational advantages are the productional factors that can be

sources of competitive advantage in India. High Tech Tools, Inc. is a multinational company that

is able to engage in the mass production of hand-held radar speed guns. The company has the

ability to set up shop in India, where the company may produce the products. However, the

company also has the capacity to export radar guns. The company can benefit from exporting the

radar guns in mass. The capacity of the company will ensure the company enjoys economies of

scale that can be used as a competitive advantage. Mass production of radar guns can lead to cost

savings for the company.

Term of Sales Contract

1. The methods of payment include; cash in advance, letters of credit, open accounts,

documentary collections, and consignment.

2. Delivery duty paid.

Transportation Plan

The transport system in India includes road, rail, and water transport. The cargo has to be

moved from the United States to India. This is the long-distance movement of cargo, and

intermodal shipping will be the best option for the company. Intermodal shipping involves the

movement of freight by two or more modes of transportation. The cargo will be packed in the

company’s manufacturing facility in Otay Mesa, California. The cargo will then be loaded into a

truck that will head to the port of San Diego. The cargo will be loaded onto the ship headed to

India. Transport from the port in India will depend on the buyer. The buyer may opt for rail

rather than the road to their preferred destination.

The transportation plan was chosen due to the various modes of transportation involved

in the movement of the cargo. The cargo has to be transported by road, sea, and even rail once it

gets to India. The choice of intermodal shipping is due to the various modes of transport

involved. Intermodal shipping will make it easy and cheap to move the cargo from California to

where the buyers are in India.

Conclusion

India is among the most advanced nations in the world. The country has a good transport

network, including road, rail, air, and sea. The communication system is well advanced and

according to international standards. Trade-in India offers more opportunities than challenges

making India a good nation for any company that would want to enter the market through

exports. The choice of India as an export destination is also based on cricket which is the

national sport of India. This presents a ready market for radar guns, and the company can

leverage some of its competitive advantages like price, product, and economies of scale.

Entering a Foreign Market Through Exports

This tool needs to be loaded in a new browser window. Entering a Foreign Market Through Exports [WLOs: 1, 2, 3] [CLOs: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5] Prior to beginning work on this assignment, read Chapters 20, 21, and 22 assigned this week.

This paper must be the final version of your Entering a Foreign Market Through Exports: A Rough Dra! of Final Paper assignment from Week 2. It should conclude the work you started in Week 2. As a reminder, this is the scenario for your final paper:

High-Tech Tools, Inc. is a company based in Otay Mesa, California. Among other high-tech equipment, the company specializes in manufacturing of the hand-held radar speed gun, a device used to measure the speed of moving objects. The radar speed gun is mostly u”lized in law enforcement to measure the speed of moving vehicles.

It is also o!en used in professional sport for measuring bowling speeds in cricket, speed of pitched baseballs, and speed of tennis serves. The company has seen a clear trend in the compe””on’s exporta”on of similar goods around the world. As the manager of interna”onal logis”cs for this company, you have been asked by senior management to help iden”fy a foreign country where the High-Tech Tools, Inc.’s export sales of radar speed guns may become successful.

The goal of this paper is to iden”fy a new country for export of high-tech equipment manufactured by an American company and formulate a successful global supply chain management strategy.

Using the material developed for Weeks 1 through 5, write an eight- to ten-page recommenda”on to High-Tech Tools, Inc.’s senior management advising them of a poten”al export country based on research conducted throughout this class. Your proposal should start with a one-page execu”ve summary (for assistance, see the Wri”ng Center’s Wri!ng an Execu!ve Summary ) that iden”fies a new export country and provides a concise overview of the key points of your paper. The main points of your proposal must address the following:

Present an execu”ve summary that iden”fies a new export country. Describe the benefits of expor”ng hi-tech equipment to the chosen country from the perspec”ve of interna”onal trade theories and economic agreements. Explain any advantages or deficiencies in a transporta”on, communica”on, or u”li”es infrastructure in the selected country that may affect interna”onal logis”cs opera”ons. Prepare an assessment of the supply chain strengths, weaknesses, and factors of compe””ve advantage exis”ng in the chosen country. Recommend the sales contract terms related to the method of payment and the use of Incoterms® 2020 rules.

Develop a transporta”on plan for moving goods efficiently and effec”vely, in an intermodal shipment from the manufacturing facility in Otay Mesa, California to the port of final des”na”on in the chosen country. Explain your ra”onale for implemen”ng the transporta”on plan. Conclude your proposal with an informed decision regarding expor”ng to the chosen country based on your presented data.

Note that the first three items and the final item above were developed earlier in Week 2 and possibly revised for improvement following your instructor’s feedback.
