The whistle on global-wide surveillance activities

In June 2013, Edward Snowden blew the whistle on global-wide surveillance activities, thus  giving new meaning to the phrase: “Big Brother is watching you!” (from George Orwell’s 1984, published in 1949). If nothing else, this revelation, complete with substantial proof, confirmed some of the conspiracy theories regarding the ubiquitous presence of government in ordinary citizens’ lives. This CT turned out to be a conspiracy after all.

  • Research another conspiracy theory that has gained attention in the last 10 years because of the factual evidence presented and because the people who support this theory are deemed to be credible. For this post, only ONE (APA) reference is necessary–the CT you will use for this assignment.
  • In one paragraph, say how/why the CT you chose is much closer to a conspiracy than to a conspiracy theory
  • FINALLY….Consider 3 aspects of your life where this assignment or Conspiracy Theories course may have influenced you and how (e.g  consider–critical thinking, conversation with others, work life, general knowledge,  and anything else you view as important).

Traditions of international order

Traditions of international order. Based on his analysis, compare and contrast the Hobbesian, Kantian and Grotian views on international society.

According to Yanzhong Huang (2009: 127): ‘Infectious disease has historically affected world politics more extensively than most imagine (McNeill 1976; Watts 1999). Yet despite its impact on the course of history and the fate of nations, for a long time the concept of security focussed on the use of military power to protect national borders and interests abroad.’

Critically discuss this statement by referring to Huang’s arguments and applying them to the COVID- 19 pandemic. Your answer should address (i) the security implications of pandemic disease; and (ii) what international relations tells us about the efficacy of state responses to the pandemic. (30 marks)

How Constitution protected the Slavery

Addressing the fact how Constitution protected the  Slavery. Obviously, this is a troubling subject, so if you need to discuss the topic with me, please let me know. Here’s the question for you to answer in your Discussion 3 post. Also, note that the question that I ask is broad, so you can answer it in some different ways.  As discussed in this week’s material, slavery was protected by the Constitution of the United States in a few different ways. Trump and thegrand old party

A Gift to Trump and thegrand old party ,” The New York Times editorial board writes that Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her allies are playing into President Trump’s hands by constantly attacking fellow Democrats. This article relates to classical liberalism because it discusses how Ocasio-Cortez and her allies are harming the Democratic Party with their infighting.

Conservative Party of Canada will start running ads publicizing their next party leader, as a viable Prime Minister of Canada. Assume that the new party leader (whoever it is – and you may assume one of the front-runners wins) is not very well known across Canada, and must boost his name recognition and his stature as a critic of Prime Minister Trudeau.

Compose a 30 second radio ad (about 65 words) for the new party leader to build name recognition and support across the country. Remember that the Conservative Party is more fiscally conservative than the Liberals or the NDP,

and tends to enjoy support from those who think Ontario is too powerful, lives outside of the largest cities, are less sympathetic to equity/diversity initiatives, favor incentives for business growth and tend to support the full lifting of COVID restrictions. Identify your target demographics (1 mark) and explain why you think this spot will influence this audience (2 marks). 4 marks total.

Peace without victory 1917

Woodrow Wilson called for a peace without victor  in 1917 (Peace Without Victory (Links to an external site.)) but in 1919 he acceded to those who demanded a victory of the “righteous overevil.” Twenty years after the Treaty of Versailles, the Second World War commenced.

There may be parallels to the current war in Ukraine. Some argue that nothing less than the complete evacuation of Ukraine by Russia is acceptable, and that the West should assist Kyiv

If you believe that diplomacy might have prevented the war, explain why, and If you believe that Russia must be stopped at all costs explain why
