Medical terms

As a health care professional, you are wondering why we are focusing on roots, suffixes, prefixes, and word structure, outside of an English Class.  what do you think the advantages are to learning the roots, word structure, etc., as opposed to purely memorizing the actual medical terms. How will this impact your practice and patients in the future?

Behavioral health

You are working in a behavioral health outpatient setting and your next patient to see complains of depression. He is a 29-year-old who tells you that he has a long-standing history of depression. Recently his mother passed away and he has been struggling more with depression. He does not feel like he has much of a support system left now. He denies SI or HI. He had been taking over-the-counter St. Johns’s’s wort and prescription escitalopram, which was working well prior to his mother’s passing. Since she passed, he has tried to increase his doses on his own, which he doesn’t feel has helped much. He does have a history of anxiety and was recently prescribed bupropion. He has noted some palpitations which he attributed to his anxiety. He has not been sleeping well, which he attributes to the stress of his mother passing. He notes a mild HA over the past few days and did take a dose of sumatriptan yesterday with no improvement. He denies any injury to his head. Today he reports he has had some increased anxiety to the point he feels nauseated and his arms/hands are shaking. He did have 2 episodes of vomiting prior to arrival and multiple episodes of diarrhea. He has been experiencing sweating all day today. He feels his symptoms are getting worse.

On physical exam, you find he is diaphoretic. He seems somewhat anxious/agitated. He does have some fine motor tremors and slightly dilated pupils. He has no unilateral weakness or facial asymmetry. Strength is equal but has some generalized rigidity. His reflexes on his upper extremity are normal but hyperreflexia on examination of his patellar reflexes. ECG and head CT are unremarkable.

Defense Mechanisms

Read and review all the Defense Mechanisms. Then select 2 or 3. 2. Share examples of 2 or 3 different defense mechanisms: One that you have used and one that you have observed in other individuals or groups being used in everyday life. T 3. Identify the purpose that the identified defense mechanisms serve. Refer to the reading for support of your ideas. 4. Identify how using the 2 or 3 defense mechanisms might contribute to more problems (e.g., in thinking, feeling, and relationships).

In OSHA’s training guidelines, several steps are listed as ways to identify training needs. The last step listed is to review the federal or state safety, health, and environmental standards applicable to the business. Why is this step listed last? What can the other steps provide that the standards cannot provide?

The orbital period of the planet

There is a one-earth mass planet orbiting an M5 star of 0.2 Mo and luminosity 1×10-2 Lo. A) How close does the planet need to be to the star in order to receive the same amount of energy as the Earth receives from the sun? (The solar flux is 1.386×10 erg s-] cm-?) B) What is the orbital period of the planet at this distance? C) What is the magnitude of the radial velocity perturbation of the star? D) If the system is edge on to us, would we be likely to detect this planet using the radial velocity method?

What place should astrology have in our modern society?

What place should astrology have in our modern society? Consider the following list of possible opinions a person might hold in response to the discussion prompt: In your written discussion response, choose three of the following opinions and provide at least one argument in favor of each of those three opinions.

  1. Total Ban: Astrology should be completely banned from all facets of our modern society, both public and private.
  2. Private Only: Astrology should only be practiced or discussed in private settings—it should be removed from all public platforms (including social media, radio, TV, online news sites, newspapers, and magazines).
  3. Just for Fun: Astrology should only be removed from public platforms whose primary purpose is to inform, not entertain (for example, removed from newspapers and news sites, but memes about astrology are still allowed).
  4. Come With a Warning: Astrology should not be removed from any online space (regardless of whether the primary purpose is to inform or entertain), but in all cases, mentions of astrology should be accompanied by an auto-generated warning that astrology is not scientifically valid.
  5. Actively Promoted: Astrology should be actively used and promoted by the government, schools, and other public institutions.
  6. Nothing: Astrology should not be regulated or actively promoted in any way (basically how it is now)response must include a list of all resources you use (this doesn’t have to be anything fancy; it can be a simple bullet list of website URLs). If you use any of the suggested resources given below, include those URLs in your list of resources. If you use a direct quote from any online resource, put the quoted text in quotation marks. No more than about 25% of your Discussion Response should be quoted text.

Responses must be written in coherent English with minimal grammatical errors or typos.

In general, your response should be written in the first person (I, me, my statements), and you can put a subheading for each of the three opinions you chose, followed by your argument(s) in favor of that opinion. That said, if you absolutely love writing and want to put a fun spin on your response, you may do so

The immediate impacts of a pandemic disease

What are the immediate impacts of a pandemic disease on local and global economies? How does the media play a role in the impact? What are the impacts on the economy as the disease spreads? What role do healthcare providers play with an epidemic in regard to the economy? State your references

Physical growth and development

Julie, an 11½-year-old girl, and John, a 14-year-old boy, are siblings who had a physical examination for school. Julie grew over 3 inches in height and John grew about half an inch in last year. “She’s almost as tall as I am, and I’m older than she is,” John says. That’s not right. I’m the shortest of my group of friends. “Am I destined to be short?”
When the nurse assesses Julie and John, what differences in physical growth and development do you think she’ll find?
What information should the nurse include in her response to John’s concern about his height?

Health Promotion and Perfusion

Tina Jones, a 28-year-old woman, was sent to the hospital for IV antibiotics after accidentally scraping her foot while climbing down a ladder. The patient also has a fever and an increased blood sugar level. Although the patient has a history of asthma and diabetes, she does not regularly test her blood sugar. Tina Jones reported her pain at 9 and was given oxycodone. Ms. Jones was afebrile, she had a low-grade fever of 100.4 F.

1. How would Health Promotion and Perfusion be an important concept in this scenario?

2. What are some abnormal signs and symptoms and thoroughly explain how they would prioritize the care of this patient.

3. How would you change your interventions if you had a second chance to care for this patient?

4. How would you apply what you have learned from this scenario to future patients?

Nurse executive roles and responsibilities

English is not my first language need help with grammar correction BELOW, Thanks

This phase of reflection is an insight into my interview with the clinical nurse manager and how the CPE objectives were attained. Based on the interview I had with the clinical nurse manager, I learned of the different tasks and responsibilities she must accomplish each day for the smooth running of her office ranging from patient care, administrative meeting, and management of the unit. Each day is different with its own challenges. Some days are full of meetings while some days are no meetings at all. I was opportune to observe how she carry out some of her functions for the day, her roles, and responsibilities. It was amazing seeing her going through the hospital policy and some of the clinical policies on procedures on her unit and updating areas that needed attention for revision.

The CPE activities were much, however the materials in the course and the task covered, gave me a clear understanding of a nurse executive roles and responsibilities. Also, not just any graduate nurses can hold such a position, there are also advanced certifications for nurse executives to qualify for the position.  Some of the tasks they engaged in include reviewing and reversing policies, implementing new policies and procedures when necessary, firing and overseeing the hiring process, and developing business plans and budgets for the nursing unit. Some of the essential skills needed for the job include effective communication both written and verbal skills coupled with good leadership and technical skills.
