Discussion of how the nurse might incorporate this knowledge into a holistic health assessment

Developing and strengthening positive coping skills

Discuss three reasons for developing and strengthening positive coping skills for clients as an addictions counselor. Create a list of 10 positive coping skills and explain what makes them positive and helpful for a client to use to assist with recovery and adherence to treatment.

American cultural values

According to your analysis of the ads, what do the advertisements suggest being required to have a good life? What specific American values and/ or desires is the company appealing to in their advertisements, and have their appeals changed over time? If not, why might they have stayed the same over time? If so, how might the changes reflect changes in American cultural values?
Organization:
This paper must include a full introduction paragraph that begins with a hook, introduces the topic (the company being analyzed), and the thesis and essay map. After the introduction, the paper must include multiple body paragraphs that follow the AXES; in each body paragraph, quotes (if the ads have words) and descriptions of the ads must be integrated to support the student’s claims. Each body paragraph should contain at least one quote or detailed description of the ads, and each must be cited! The paper must wrap up with a conclusion paragraph.

The best way to approach this paper’s organization is to explore the ads chronologically; this means you will likely have two to three body paragraphs on the old ads, followed by two to three body paragraphs on the new ads. Remember: compare the ads based on a shared theme to determine if the message has changed. Give equal attention to all four ads.

Causes for learning disabilities

Describe the three believed causes for learning disabilities in children.

Learning disorders are believed to occur because of an abnormality in the nervous system, either in the structure of the brain or in the functioning of brain chemicals.

The difference in the nervous system causes the child with a learning disorder to receive, process, or communicate information in a different way.

These can include poor nutrition or exposure to lead in water or in paint. Young children who do not receive the support they need for their intellectual development may show signs of learning disabilities once they start school. Sometimes a person may develop a learning disability later in life due to injury.

Animal rights advocates

The fundamental wrong is the system that allows us to view animals as our resources, here for us — to be eaten, or surgically manipulated, or exploited for sport or money. Once we accept this view of animals – as our resources – the rest is as predictable as it is regrettable.

According to Regan, why do animal advocates use violence?

Discuss in detail the differences between animal rights advocates and animal welfarist advocates. Which one is more prone to use violence, and why?

The development of a behavior

1. What are 3 things staff can do to contribute to the development of a behavior support plan “BPS” to manage aggressive behavior and who may be consulted regarding the development of a BSP?

2. If it is determined that the environment is having some negative impact on a clients behavior, what sort of review should be performed, what information should be documented and where would you document the outcomes and the recommendations from the review?

3. What are five types of interventions that would be an inappropriate response to behaviors of concerns?

Operant conditioning

Jane has a gambling habit. She spends almost every day at the casino playing slot machines. She also has a group of friends she spends a lot of time with, and they frequently play slot machines at the casino together.

Gambling is an operant conditioning that gets fixed in the brain and psychology makes the person expect similar outcomes on similar events. One more trend follows the operant conditioning where, even in absence of such stimulus, similar outcomes are expected due to surroundings effects on psychology.

She lives near the casino and can see the casino building from her bedroom window. Using the principles of classical and instrumental conditioning, explain the conditioning influences on this behaviour and how it can perpetuate the problem.

In your answer, be sure to discuss the mechanisms for both classical and instrumental conditioning surrounding the behaviour.

Principles of instrumental conditioning

Michael has been diagnosed with prediabetes. His doctor informed him that he needs to adopt a healthier lifestyle, and one of the more immediate changes needed is losing weight.

Preventing Type 2 Diabetes

If you have prediabetes, losing a small amount of weight if you’re overweight and getting regular physical activity can lower your risk for developing type 2 diabetes. A small amount of weight loss means around 5% to 7% of your body weight, just 10 to 14 pounds for a 200-pound person.

Michael is worried as his previous attempts to lose weight by dieting have met with little success.

He knows that he should stick to healthier dietary options such as consuming more fruits and vegetables, but often loses out to temptation by binging on junk food instead.

Why is it so difficult to stick to our diet? Why would Michael choose the immediate pay-off over the long-term outcome?

In your answer and using the principles of instrumental conditioning, also present viable options to Michael to curb his junk food consumption.

Sense of identity and personal responsibility

Explain using your own words what deindividuation is.  Describe a situation where it is likely to occur.

Deindividuation is a state when you become so immersed in the norms of the group that you lose your sense of identity and personal responsibility.

An individual relinquishes individual responsibility for actions and sees behavior as a consequence of group norms and expectations.

Deindividuation also occurs when people are wrapped up in a hobby or activity. For example, when people are in a mosh pit at a concert, they’re punching the air and shaking their heads frantically – behaviors they wouldn’t engage in if they weren’t a part of a crowd.

The concept of intergenerational trauma

Do you believe that the concept of intergenerational trauma should also apply to families in which there is no specific historic precipitant but there is a history of trauma-producing behavior within the family (e.g., substance abuse or domestic violence)? Why or why not?
