Childcare and domestic chores

Describe the hardships of any 1 (one) of the following groups: American Indians, African Americans, Mexican Americans, and European immigrants.  How did they cope in the past vs. how did they cope now?  How did their struggles shape their group identity over time?  Give examples.  Discuss in detail the strengths of the 2 family groups described in the text. Then, select 1 (one) family group and thoroughly describe the gender roles.  Select 1 (one) of the following 3 theories (social learning theory, cognitive development theory, and feminist approaches) and explain how the theory you selected would explain why men are less likely than women to engage in childcare and domestic chores.  Be as specific as possible, and be sure to support your answer with sources you cite in the body of your answer and include in a reference list.

Acute myocardial infarction

Title: Addition of clopidogrel to aspirin in 45 852 patients with acute myocardial infarction: randomized placebo-controlled trial Summary Background Despite improvements in the emergency treatment of myocardial infarction (MI), early mortality and morbidity remain high. The antiplatelet agent clopidogrel adds to the benefit of aspirin in acute coronary syndromes without ST-segment elevation, but its effects in patients with ST-elevation MI were unclear. Methods 45 852 patients admitted to 1250 hospitals within 24 h of suspected acute MI onset were randomly allocated clopidogrel 75 mg daily (n=22 961) or a matching placebo (n=22 891) in addition to aspirin 162 mg daily. 93% had ST-segment elevation or bundle branch block, and 7% had STsegment depression. Treatment was to continue until discharge or up to 4 weeks in the hospital (mean 15 days in survivors) and 93% of patients completed it. The two prespecified co-primary outcomes were: (1) the composite of death, reinfarction, or stroke; and (2) death from any cause during the scheduled treatment period. Comparisons were by intention to treat and used the log-rank method. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT00222573. Findings Allocation to clopidogrel produced a highly significant 9% (95% CI 3-14) proportional reduction in death, reinfarction, or stroke (2121

National health objectives

Although one of the national health objectives for Healthy People 2020 is to reduce the prevalence of obesity among adults to less than 15%, current data indicate that the situation is worsening rather than improving (CDC: Overweight and Obesity).

BELOW ARE SOME STRATEGIES THAT YOU AS PUBLIC HEALTH PROFESSIONAL ARE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE VIEWS/RECOMMENDATIONS ON IN ORDER TO FIGHT THIS OBESITY ENDEMIC IN UNITED STATES.

  1. Increase public (Medicaid and Medicare) and private insurance coverage for counseling and wellness programs.
  2. Increase government investment in research to develop ‘medical products’ to treat obesity.
  3. Increase locally sourced foods such as urban farms.

PROVIDE – the pros and cons of each strategy listed above, also discuss how these strategies impact health equity and the public’s health overall. Provide an explanation as to why some options seem appropriate while others should be discarded (cite evidence to support your explanation).

Please try to answer the above question in this manner, here is one example of a strategy recommendation-

Tax snack-food and fast-food sales (consumer pays)

Pros: This strategy could potentially reduce the consumption of unhealthy foods, leading to a decrease in obesity. Additionally, the revenue generated by the tax could be used to fund public health initiatives.

Cons: This could be seen as an unfair burden on consumers, and there could be unintended consequences if people switch to cheaper, but still unhealthy foods. Unintended consequences could also include people simply buying unhealthy food in larger quantities in order to minimize the impact of the tax or buying food online from out of state to avoid the tax.

Effectiveness: This strategy could be effective, depending on the size of the tax.

Impact on health equity and the public’s health: This strategy could potentially have a positive impact on health equity and the public’s health, as it could lead to a decrease in the consumption of unhealthy foods.

Piaget’s theory

In Piaget’s theory, children construct their own cognitive worlds, building mental structures to adapt to their world.  Explain each term:

Schemes, Assimilation, Accommodation, Organization, and Equilibration.  Choose one term and explain it in further detail and include a clear example.

Look over the videos in the McGraw-hill library about Piaget and Sensorimotor Stages for more information as well as the videos posted on the modules.

Include a minimum of two in-text citations in your entire post from the textbook or from a journal article (no website citations).  Post the References (titled) at the bottom of the POST.

The POST (15 points) must be submitted first then the REPLY (5 points) second to a peer. Respond to at least one other peer’s posting (more is great!).

The REPLY must be based on your peer’s POST and must be substantive and more than a compliment but rather take a position, ask questions, discuss what the peer explained in their POST.

POST (15 points) and REPLY (5 points) to a minimum of one peer.

The concept of intersectionality

Define Intersectionality? Why is this an important lense to think about in regards to women, gender, and the field of psychology?

The concept of intersectionality describes the ways in which systems of inequality based on gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, class and other forms of discrimination “intersect” to create unique dynamics and effects.
Intersectionality, therefore, refers to the simultaneous experience of social categories such as race, gender, socioeconomic status, and sexual orientation and the ways in which these categories interact to create systems of oppression, domination, and discrimination.
Intersectionality is a term used to describe how different factors of discrimination can meet at an intersection and can affect someone’s life.
Adding intersectionality to feminism is important to the movement because it allows the fight for gender equality to become inclusive.
INTERSECTIONALITY IS BASED ON SEVERAL KEY TENETS: Human lives cannot be explained by taking into account single categories, such as gender, race, and socio-economic status.
People’s lives are multi-dimensional and complex. Lived realities are shaped by different factors and social dynamics operat- ing together.
What is Intersectionality? In the context of diversity and inclusion (D&I), intersectionality describes the interconnected relationship of social categorizations (such as race, gender and sexual orientation) as applied to an individual or a group.
For example, a black woman faces racial and gender prejudice, whereas a black man faces only racial prejudice. A white gay man faces different, and far fewer, obstacles than a Latinx transgender person.

The gender division of labor

What is the “Motherhood Mandate?” Discuss with examples

Motherhood is thought to be the process through which a bond with an attachment figure, usually a mother, is developed. Chodorow writes that female motherhood is rooted in the gender division of labor that promotes the socialization of women toward “maternal qualities” such as empathy and nurturance in girls and women.

Motherhood Sentence Examples

Motherhood is a driving force. Meal preparation is one of the most time-consuming parts of motherhood. It was the intimacy of motherhood that she missed. Maci struggles to balance motherhood, college and a part-time job.

Sophistication of methodology

In what ways does sophistication of methodology, as much as precision theory, allow progress in developmental science?

Validity refers to how accurately a method measures what it is intended to measure. If research has high validity, that means it produces results that correspond to real properties, characteristics, and variations in the physical or social world.

The theory functionalism

Use the theory functionalism to explain the role of religion in the Kenyan farmers’ communities. Use example to illustrate your points and the two different types of functions.

Given this approach, Durkheim proposed that religion has three major functions in society: it provides social cohesion to help maintain social solidarity through shared rituals and beliefs, social control to enforce religious-based morals and norms to help maintain conformity and control in society, and it offers …

In the Interactionism theory religion is a form of interaction while in the conflict theory and the functionalism theory it serves only as a means of governance. Conflict theory addresses religion as a social construct while Interactionism and functionalism view religion as a means for the functioning of the society.

Types of memory

In this module, we learned about the different types of memory and the steps in the memory process. Pick two different concepts from the list below and find an article online that reflects each concept.  You are looking for articles that show real-world examples of the concepts, (types of memory) not scholarly articles about the concepts.  You should not be discussing psychology studies or using psychology sites such as psychology today. Examples of articles to look for

  • Impact of cell phones on memory–articles not studies
  • Why do we get memory wrong?
  • How can lifestyles affect memory?
  • How does social media impact memory
  • Find articles that would be an example of procedural memory without googling procedural memory
  • Research some events that would be considered a flashbulb memory without googling flashbulb memory

Pick 2 concepts from this list:  flashbulb memory, episodic memory, retrieval, recognition, long term memory, semantic memory, implicit/procedural memory

*For example, if you decide to pick flashbulb memory and semantic memory then you would need to find an article that reflects the use of flashbulb memory and an article that reflects the use of semantic memory.  Two concepts & two articles.

After reading through each of the articles address the following for each:

  1. Provide a summary of the article. Be sure your summary has enough detail to ensure full credit.
  2. Identify the type of memory that the article reflects
  3. Explain why the article reflects that type of memory.  Make sure to highlight specifics from the article that support your analysis. Make sure to accurately incorporate and underline at least 4 different terms for each article (this does not include the memory you are discussing)
  4. Pick one of the other concepts listed above and explain how that concept is different from the one that your article reflects.
  5. Accurately cite your article sources. Use a citation generator for help with citation using APA  format.  NO Citation means no credit
