Brachial nerve injury

resulted in an increase in the frequency and duration of these infectious bouts. As a result, the recurrent challenged state of this vital organ has led to an enlargement of his liver and consequently degradation and fibrosis of its cells known medically as cirrhosis. This is in fact why Steve has arrived to see his GP today. Although upper abdominal pain has become a way of life for Steve, he is now experiencing an increase in his pain following dense meals. Since this type of condition is often accompanied by _, an inflammatory response in the peritoneum of the serous membranes surrounding the abdominal cavity and organs, you suspect the formation of abnormal fibrous bands or, that act to bind together adjacent parts of intestines and can lead to discomfort when distended. A patient is wheeled into urgent care one evening when you are working. He is short of breath, perspiring, and in a considerable amount of pain. He is nauseous and is having trouble keeping down food. He is placed in an examination room right away. Before beginning your physical exam, you order a panel of tests that will broadly screen for infections, anemia…, known as an As the nurse draws the patient’s blood, you notice his distended abdomen. He informs you his pain is located to the right of midline, near his hip or in essence in the region. In order to assess the structures within this region, you apply very gentle pressure in a circular motion from the inferolateral margin of his umbilicus – gently working your hands toward the right side and down to his hip. This allows you to determine the size, consistency, and distension of the intestine beneath the skin. This type of initial physical examination is called As a result of a recent fall from a tree, Debbie is experiencing sharp, internal pain radiating from her armpit accompanied by a tingling sensation distally and muscular weakness. With additional probing, Debbie informs you that she grabbed a branch attempting to break her fall on the way down. Suspecting brachial nerve injury due to stretch trauma, you ask Debbie to elevate her arm at the shoulder away from the median plane of the body or it.

Healthcare sector

But what about the healthcare sector?  In your area (or anticipated area) of professional practice/expertise… where do you access information that guides and drives your practice? If you are not working in healthcare –  Where do you get the information that informs your current job? What databases or sources do you use frequently?
What tools do you use? How much do you rely on your tablet or Smart Phone? Is it safe to use cell phones in hospitals? There used to be quite a bit of debate around this topic and the potential for interference with medical equipment. Now as cell phones are more commonplace and technology becomes more sophisticated the narrative has largely shifted to worry about confidentiality, distraction, and infection control.
The question for this week is:

What are the sources of information that you use most frequently, and what is it about them that guides and supports your current profession/work? Mention 2 database post the link and rationale why you are using the database

Dietary supplement

https://www.fda.gov/consumers/health-fraud-scams

First, go to this website https://www.fda.gov/consumers/protecting-yourself/health-fraud-scams. it’s about what health fraud scams are; the short video. Click on ‘health fraud news’ and some of the most current news about types of health fraud. Next, click on ‘resources for you’ and read about ‘how to spot a health fraud’ and ‘medication health fraud’; find some interesting facts.

Next, click on this website https://qualitymatters.usp.org/what-letters-usp-mean-label-your-medicine Links to an external site. and read about the 1994 DSHEA, and what the USP seal means on dietary supplements.

Then, click on this website http://www.nsf.org/consumer-resources/who-is-nsf-international and find out more about what the NSF seal means on dietary supplements.

Finally, choose a dietary supplement/multi-vitamin/mineral that you have heard of, have used, or know about. Using the information about health fraud, USP/NSF, and DSHEA, do some research on your chosen diet supplement to find out if it is USP/NSF designated. If it is not, what does that mean about the quality/potency/effectiveness of the product?

Rehabilitation facility

Chris Smith, the brother of a rehabilitation facility resident Edward Smith, was at a party when his friend, John, picked up his wife’s phone (an occupational therapist working with Edward) to read her a text message. The message noted that the attending physician agreed that a drug screen was a good idea for Edward Smith. The people at the party who overheard the text message discussion were immediately aware that Edward Smith was the quadriplegic brother of Chris. Chris did not want to get the therapist in trouble but was angered that personal information about his brother’s medical condition was released in front of others. The licensing board opened an investigation and learned that the attending physician had been texting orders to the personal phone numbers of nurses and therapists at the rehabilitation facility. This saved time because the nurses and therapists would get the orders directly and the physician would not have to dictate orders and rely on others to communicate the message. The use of cell phones also provided the ability for nurses and therapists to get orders while they worked with other residents. The practice was widely known within the facility but was not the approved method of communicating orders. 1. What principles of electronic security are violated in this scenario? You may also want to review information from Chapter 5 as you craft this response.
2. What consequences for these violations should be enacted?
3. Search for examples of BYOD (bring your own device) policies and craft a policy for this rehabilitation facility

Communication materials

Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvLsgXH69rc (Safe Sleep for Babies | American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Content of the Presentation: Critique all examples of the group of materials you choose. Provide your feedback on the following aspects of the campaign elements: • Comment on the visuals – what do you see? • Who is the target audience(s)? What demographics are being targeted? • What is the purpose of this communication? • Is the message clear? Why or why not? • Are the communication materials/message(s) appropriate for individuals belonging to different cultures, races/ethnicity, and gender? Why or why not? • Critique the message for liking, relevance to the target audience, believability, and acceptability. • Will the material have any effect on the target audience, i.e., change in knowledge, attitude, or behavior? • Evaluate the effectiveness of the communication materials. Explain why you think these materials would or would not be effective. • Conclude with suggestions you have that could improve the message and materials including how materials are delivered.

Ovarian cancer

A sample of 100 healthy middle-aged women was followed for 9 years. All subjects entered the study on January 1, 2009, and all women were followed until December 31, 2017. None were lost to follow-up, and no one died during this period. During this period, five subjects were diagnosed with ovarian cancer, but all survived until the end of the study. None were cured. The time at which these subjects developed cancer Question 1 What was the prevalence (%) of ovarian cancer on January 31, 2009? Question 2 What was the prevalence (%) of ovarian cancer on December 31, 2017? Question 3 What was the cumulative incidence (%) of ovarian cancer over the 9-year period?

You must focus on polio in the 1940s and 1950s not on the epidemiology of polio now). 1) Etiologic agent, transmission, and what groups are/were high risk 2) Signs/symptoms and disease progression 3) Prevention and treatment (e.g., isolation and quarantine, vaccine development, pharmacotherapy) 4) Media response and public reaction 5) Survivors’ experiences (e.g., consider the social determinants of health, disability, inequities, and discrimination) 6) How can epidemiology contribute to the scientific, ethical, economic and political discussions of polio and COVID-19? What types of epidemiologic measures should people consider when developing evidence-based policies for these conditions? 7) 3 reliable sources of information about the epidemiology of each disease (6 references total). Briefly describe why you think these sources of information about epidemiology are reliable.

Negligent errors

From Pozgar Chapter 11, choose any one of the negligent errors by an allied health professional. Describe the legal and ethical issues involved. Who is responsible? (List all potential parties.) In what way(s) did the quality of the interrelationships among the health professionals involved in the case affect the organization’s outcomes? Explain. Analyze the legal and ethical aspects of the case and how they are related. How might ignorance of legal and ethical standards affect the accreditation or licensure of a healthcare organization?

Hypothesis test

Perform a hypothesis test using a 0.05 significance level to test Dr. Karabinus’ claim (in the above video) about the success rate of the XSORT method of gender selection. Assume that the sample data that you are using consists of 55 girls born in 100 births. Carefully word the final conclusion for your hypothesis test. Discuss the statistical significance of the results. Use 2 out of the 3 hypothesis testing methods you learned in this module
