Specialized care for patients

Your faculty (the hospital you work for  Board of Directors’ representative) is interested in developing a cardiac care unit. The Board believes offering specialized care for patients with cardiac diseases will meet an unmet need in the community but want to be sure they are making the right decision. You are directed to identify the current and future need for cardiac services based on the community population characteristics and the current use of cardiac services at your hospital. Please prepare an email outlining your thoughts on how you would accomplish the task. HINT: to accomplish this activity, pick a zip code and base your outline on the real-life population descriptors in that zip code. Assume there is no other cardiac unit in the area available. Consider the social determinants of health, epidemiological measures, and population assessment process. All necessary concepts to accomplish this task successfully are presented in weeks 1-4. Use the following information to help you develop a business email.

Assertive confrontation message

Read the following situation and prepare an assertive confrontation message and tell us what points you will use in your message. Why did you choose these points for your message?

Manuel has become a broken record. For weeks, he has come into your office to complain about something. Often, his complaints have to do with the way his co-workers are performing. Sometimes, he complains about a specific co-worker and subtly implies how superior his performance is to the co-worker. He then suggests how underpaid he is. Occasionally, he has even threatened to quit and find a better position elsewhere. Manuel is a good performer, but on average no better or worse than his co-workers. You would like to pay everyone more, but budget and market considerations don’t allow it. Also, you do not feel additional pay is warranted for Manuel in comparison to his co-workers. Also, you want the complaining to stop.

Study designs

  • Distinguish between study designs in terms of causal inference and sources of bias.

Read Nurse Staffing and Inpatient Hospital Mortality.

Write a Memorandum (no more than 2 pages) directed to your faculty answering the questions:

  1. What questions the did researchers try to answer?
  2. What study design was chosen for this study? Why?
  3. What data was collected? Why?
  4. What biases the study was subjected to?
  5. What conclusions were made?
  6. How a healthcare manager can use this study to guide departmental staffing?

**Refer to credible sources following APA format when appropriate

Unstructured data

2. An example of unstructured data is: An on-screen checkbox indicating whether the patient was conscious or unconscious on admission typed comments of a doctor’s observations about patient codes that represent different diagnoses all of these are unstructured all of these are structured 11. This is an example of which subtype of informatics? Using an EHR system to identify all patients of a health center who are overdue for a screening test clinical research informatics public health informatics genomic informatics population informatics 12. This is an example of which subtype of informatics? Enabling individuals to access and understand their own personal health data clinical research informatics consumer informatics public health informatics genomic informatics population informatics 13. In discussing the different functions of EHRs, the readings make a distinction between direct care functions, support functions, and information infrastructure. Which category does this fall into Checking a patient’s prescription list for drug interactions with a new prescription? support functions direct care 14. One of the functions of an EHR is " clinical decision support." An example of this is: -checking for possible interactions or adverse reactions before a provider prescribes a particular medication -avoiding mistakes due to bad handwriting -making it easier to collect data and report data summaries providing a quick way to share data with other medical team members – letting patients see their own health data so that they can better understand a provider’s recommendations

Professional practice experience

Professional Practice Experience – The professional practice experience (PPE), also called an externship or internship, benefits both the student and the facility that accepts the student for placement. – Students receive on—the”-job experience prior to graduation, which assists them in obtaining permanent employment, and facilities have the opportunity, to participate in and improve the formal education process. – The professional practice experience is—the—job training even though it is non-paid, and you should expect to provide proof of immunizations (available from your physician), undergo a pre—employment physical examination, and participate in facility—wide and department—specific orientations. – Breach of patient confidentiality can result in termination from the professional practice experience site, failure of the professional practice experience course, and even possible suspension and/or expulsion from the academic program

Public policy statement

Health Equity. In August 2021 AHIMA published a public policy statement entitled, " AHIMA Public Policy Statement: Health Equity." The policy statement identified the need to address the cultural and health disparities that exist through the establishment of public policies. In order to have a positive impact on the quality of health care delivered to all, AHIMA states that the following guidelines must be followed: – Encourage the standardized collection of accurate and complete patient demographic and social determinants of health data. – Guarantee the right for all to have access to affordable, high-quality health coverage. – Promote the leveraging of technology to analyze the quality of care and outcomes using both patient demographics and clinical data to identify and address health disparities. – Promote health care delivery and finance models and quality measures that focus on promotion and prevention strategies to reduce health inequities. – Address human capital and educational needs of the healthcare workforce.

Exercise program

Mrs. Jones is an “apparently healthy” adult. She is a 47-year-old stay-at-home woman who comes to you for advice on starting an exercise program after having a satisfactory graded exercise test with her physician. Mrs. Jones is 5 ft 4 in tall and weighs 147 lbs. She has not done any structured physical activity since her days as a public school student more than 30 years ago. She occasionally walks with her friends for almost 1.5 miles at a sustainable pace about two to four times per month over the last several years. Mrs. Jones reports that she is starting to notice various weaknesses in her abilities to carry out her activities of daily living (ADLs) and an increasing balance deficit upon standing. In addition, she reports seeing a physician on a yearly basis for checkups but has no major health problems. She did have an exercise test at her physician’s urging, and the results were unremarkable except for her rather low cardiovascular fitness. She does report a history of diabetes on her father’s side of the family. She also had a hysterectomy operation after her third child about 10 years ago. Also, she denies any symptoms associated with coronary heart disease (e.g., chest pain, shortness of breath) but reports feeling “tired” after her regular walks for about a day or so. Mrs. Jones takes only a women’s multivitamin and a calcium supplement. Her vitals include a resting heart rate of 78 bpm and resting blood pressure that averages around 124/80 mm Hg. Her most recent blood work reported a total cholesterol of 187 mg ∙ dL−1 and an estimated LDL-C of 108 mg ∙ dL−1 and a measured HDL-C of 52 mg ∙ dL−1. Her fasting blood glucose was also reported as 103 mg ∙ dL−1.

Case Study Questions

  1. Give a brief summary of Mrs. Jones’s overall health and risk for chronic disease. ( how many CHD risk factors?)? Calculate BMI to determine obesity.
  2. Would you recommend medical clearance or any further follow-up with a physician before starting a total program? Why or Why not? Refer to the ACSM algorithm.

Quantitative sample

“The study used a quantitative sample to obtain quantitative data. The research was conducted by creating a sample cohort of adolescents aged 11 to 14. And they get the vaccine within one year, from January 2017 to December 2017. The vaccine series followed the next 14 months (January 2018 to February 2019) for series completion. In this study, non-directional statistical tests were conducted with a significance set at 0.05 and were analyzed. At least 300 adolescents were required to achieve 80 % power with statistical significance set at 0.05 for each two-tailed test, and 95% CI was reported to address effect size. The sample of 803 adolescents provided over 80% power for the planned analyses. This study’s multivariable logistic regression analyses examined the influence of individual-level and community-level factors on timely series completion. Please paraphrase this paragraph in your own words.
