Entrepreneurial process

The entrepreneurial process is one through which a new venture is created by an entrepreneur. This process results from the actions of the entrepreneur in bringing the resources together to form the organisation in order to pursue the opportunity.” There are four distinct phases in this process which are: 1. Identify and evaluate the opportunity. 2. Develop the business plan. 3. Determine the resources required; and 4. Start and manage the enterprise.

All businesses are required to operate within the legal framework of the province.   The government of Ontario has recently introduced a new ”right to disconnect from work” legislation, effective June 2, 2022, under the Employment Standards Act.

Goal Setting Theory of motivation

Imagine you are a consultant and have been hired by TVN.  The president of TVN is concerned because employees are lacking motivation and the TV show ratings are down.  After speaking with various employees, you learn that the managers at TVN are not clearly outlining how to achieve performance goals, and are not making a clear link between employee performance and organizational rewards.  Your assessment of the situation leads you to conclude that the source of the problem lies with the TVN’s leadership.

Which one leadership theory would best address TVN’s management problem?  Name and describe the key leadership behaviours in this theory. Further, based on the Goal Setting Theory of motivation, which type of leader behavior in this leadership theory is most relevant to gaining employee goal commitment, and in one or two sentences describe why? Lastly, according to Goal Setting Theory of motivation, how challenging should employees’ goals be, and which type of leader behavior in the leadership theory discussed above is most relevant to determining the level of challenge in setting of goals?

Stress Management in Hospitality

Stress Management in Hospitality

The hotel industry also faces some unique challenges in improving the health and safety of its employees. According to OSHA the most common safety violations within the hospitality industry are violations for inadequate record-keeping and failing to provide proper personal protective equipment for the staff. However work-related stress is an important health issue in the hospitality industry, especially because employees are expected to be “on stage” at all times.

  • What do you think are the top three stressors in the hospitality industry?
  • What can you do, as a hospitality manager, to reduce stress for your employees? (include at least three suggestions)

Highly competent systems analyst

Your company is desperately looking for a systems analyst.
You know that your competitor invested heavily in training
and has a highly competent systems analyst, who indicated to
you privately that she would switch if you paid her $10,000
more. Your boss thinks that this is a bargain and tells you,
“Get her!” It surely would hurt the competitor. What issues
does this raise. Discuss and give concrete details of at least 2
issues.

Planning considerations as companies plan for a demerger

Global mergers and acquisitions (M&A) hit new highs in 2021 – breaking prior records by a long shot. The number of announced deals exceeded 62,000 globally in 2021, up an unprecedented 24% from 2020. Publicly disclosed deal values reached all-time highs of US$5.1tn- including 130 megadeals with a deal value greater than US$5bn -a whopping 57% higher than in 2020 and smashing the previous record of US$4.2tn set in 2007. The often-frenzied M&A activity in 2021 was fulled by intense demand for technology, and for digital and data-driven assets, and the pent-up deal-making demand from 2020 that was unleashed. At the outset of the pandemic, efficient operations and access to capital helped many large corporations fare better than their smaller, less-well-capitalised competitors. One might conclude this will lead to further consolidation, as companies use M&A to gain the advantages of size and scale. However, a number of large established corporations, including IBM, Daimler, General Electric, Johnson & Johnson and Toshiba, have recently announced demergers or divestitures, effectively doing the opposite -breaking up their business. A. Identify and briefly describe two benefits and drawbacks of demergers? B. Identify and briefly describe two planning considerations as companies plan for a demerger? C. Identify and briefly describe 5 HR issues that would need to be considered for the implementation of the demerger?

Keeping people healthy and saving lives

Health care is about keeping people healthy and saving lives, but it is also about taking care of people-being caring-when they are sick and scared, when they are ashamed and vulnerable, when they are suffering from dementia, when they are dying, and when they are losing a loved one to dementia or death.

Imagine that you are an administrator at a hospital. It has recently been proposed that your hospital open a so-called bioemporium to house neomorts. There’s no question that a bioemporium housing neomorts holds untold potential for efficiencies and maybe even profit. But would a bioemporium housing neomorts be consistent with what health care is about: again, not only keeping people healthy and saving lives, but taking care of people-being caring?

Don’t feel that you need to answer no, it wouldn’t be. Do use Hall’s organizational goals approach/mission statement perspective to formulate an answer to the question: Should your hospital proceed with opening the bioemporium? Draw from the mission statement of the hospital of your choice. (Choose a hospital; cast yourself as an administrator there. If you work at a hospital, consider choosing it!) Consider also the possible effects on your hospital’s various stakeholders.

Deontology and utilitarianism

Besides deontology and utilitarianism, another ethical theory that is often used in resolving ethical dilemma is virtue ethics. Based on this, answer the following:

Explain your answer by highlighting the important aspects of virtue ethics and provide TWO (2) examples of virtue in your answer.
