Idea of comparative effectiveness research

The idea of comparative effectiveness research is to provide information about the value of different tools. Once that information is available, however, who should make the decisions about whether to provide coverage and reimbursement for a particular good or service? Can one objectively assess the potential harms and benefits associated with mammograms or other services or medications? Should decisions be made solely by the patient and treating provider? Does it matter if decisions affect taxpayers (for example, if a patient is covered by a government program such as Medicare or the Veterans Administration)?

Prime minister of Italy with a shrinking population

You are the prime minister of Italy with a shrinking population due to a low birth rate. Each year thousands of migrants attempt to enter Italy from northern Africa by crossing the Mediterranean. Many of those who survive the journey seek to continue onward from Italy to other parts of Europe.

Political parties that have gained control of governments of Austria, Germany, Slovenia, and Spain have stated that they will work toward invoking Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union against Italy if it does not stop the flow of migrants across its borders. Italian national elections will occur in six months. If your political party wins the majority of seats in Italy’s parliament, you will achieve your goal of serving another term as prime minister.

The European Central Bank

The European Central Bank (ECB) sets monetary policy for the entire Eurozone (an area comprised of 18 countries in Europe). It also issues the “euro”, the common currency for the Eurozone. The ECB has to decide whether it will lower interest rates over the next year to the lowest point on record.

In a world of mobile capital, the ECB’s interest rate policy is coming under increasing scrutiny, both at home and abroad. Some economic sectors within the Eurozone economy are concerned about the effect that a rate drop could have on the euro’s exchange rate. However, other sectors are excited about this. Global communities and Political Ideologies

Global communities and Political Ideologies to answer the following question: Sarnia is an American born in Houston, Texas. Sarnia is very smart and is a great soccer player, she is so good she has the opportunity to go to school on a soccer scholarship. However during her senior year Sarnia is devastated as she finds out that she is one month pregnant with her and her boyfriend Thomas baby.

She begins to get depressed as she knows she is not ready to have a baby, she also feels betrayed by her body as she was on birth control and felt sure that nothing could happen. She doesn’t feel any support from her boyfriend Thomas who comes from a conservative family and is more than excited to welcome the baby. Worse yet, the Supreme court just passed a law making abortions and birth control illegal in the United States.

Isn’t this supposed to be a democratic country? Sarnia begins venting about her situation to her cousins in Germany where abortions are legal and access to reproductive contraception. In the midst of feeling hopeless Sarnia is considering to get an illegal abortion, that is both dangerous and can kill her. When she shares her feelings with Thomas he threatens to both call the police on her and leave her. Sarnia feels trapped, alone and worse forced into having a baby she does not want.

After reading this story, about a 200- 300 word response critiquing the political ideologies present in Sarnias story as well as whether or not the USA represents a flawed democracy and how they represent this in the story. Also share how Sarnias cousin can help her from Germany from the perspective of activism and awareness, and how that contributes to our Global community.
