Important aspect of cell cycle control

Important aspect of cell cycle control is ensuring that transitions such as entry into mitosis occur rapidly and completely.  The regulation of Cyclin-Cdk by Wee1 tyrosine kinase and Cdc25 (tyrosine phosphatase) gives a good appreciation of how this control can be achieved.

The balance of activities of Wee1 and Cdc25 determines the state of phosphorylation of tyrosine 15 of cdk.  When tyrosine 15 is phosphorylated, Cyclin-cdk is inactive; when tyrosine 15 is not phosphorylated, Cyclin-cdk is active.  Just as the activity of Cyclin-cdk itself is controlled by phosphorylation, so too are the activities of Wee1 kinase and Cdc25 phosphatase!

Occurrence of incomplete dominance

Occurrence of incomplete dominance when a recessive gene overpowers a dominant gene. genetic effects are overpowered by environmental factors. a dominant gene overpowers a recessive gene. there is a compromise between the effect of two genes.

A dominant gene is a particular variant of a gene, which for a variety of reasons, expresses itself more strongly all by itself than any other version of the gene which the person is carrying, and, in this case, the recessive.

Assisting with Care transitions

As a case manager, you are responsible for assisting with care transitions. Outline a discharge plan from the hospital to home care services for the following client: Mr. Perez is a 72-year-old Puerto Rican male being discharged from your hospital with an exacerbation of Congestive Heart Failure. He has been hospitalized three times in the past 90 days.

He lives alone and has limited family support. He understands English; however, he prefers to communicate in Spanish.

This is his first referral to home care services. Medicare is his primary payor source.

As you develop your discharge plan, identify areas that you will focus on with the home health agency to decrease the likelihood of readmission to the hospital.

The value of a product offering

The value of a product offering is determined by the customer and

varies accordingly. How does a retailer like Walmart deliver value differently than Banana Republic

A fibrous root system

A fibrous root system  that penetrates deep into the soil accessing underground water and minerals during drought in which large numbers of relatively equal-sized roots arise from the base of the plant immediately below the ground consisting of a large tapering root with smaller side branches absorbs rainwater on the plant’s surface a large, central, and dominant root from which other roots sprout laterally. Typically a taproot is somewhat straight and very thick, is tapering in shape, and grows directly downward..

Secondary xylem and phloem tissue

Vascular cambium creates secondary xylem and phloem tissue forms a protective cap covering the apical meristem of root tips is responsible for producing leaves transports carbohydrates and water between the roots and the leaves

The root apical meristem is protected as it passes through the soil by an outer region of living parenchyma cells called the root cap. As the cells of the root cap are destroyed and sloughed off, new cells are added by a special internal layer of meristematic cells called the calyptrogen

How the oxygen produced by photosynthesis released

How the oxygen produced by photosynthesis released from the plant?Within the plant cell, the water is oxidized, meaning it loses electrons, while the carbon dioxide is reduced, meaning it gains electrons.

This transforms the water into oxygen and the carbon dioxide into glucose.the plant then releases the oxygen back into the air , and stores energy within the glucose molecules. then the process starts all over again

Most plants stomata arrangement

In most plants stomata arrangement  are found more often on the upper leaf surface than the lower more often on the lower leaf surface than the upper  in equal numbers on upper and lower leaf surfaces throughout the plant.

Stomata are cell structures in the epidermis of tree leaves and needles that are involved in the exchange of carbon dioxide and water between plants and the atmosphere.

The treatment of lung cancer

Why are these chemotherapeutic drugs potentially useful for the treatment of lung cancer (remember the experiment was performed on  lung cancer cell lines!)?  Rubric (0.5):  Explain the result when each chemotherapeutic drug alone (0.25 pts) was applied to the cells and explain why these drugs might be useful given the result (0.25pts)

Ecological Interactions  within a sustainable ecosystem

Need for all four Ecological Interactions  within a sustainable ecosystem? It is defined as the relationship of two different or the same species that live in a specific community. This enables the balance of life in a specific community. It enable other organisms to benefit from the efforts and activities made by other organisms.
